2004 Ames Tororo Building Project. This is the first year we took students to Uganda to build. We begin the construction of the Tororo Parents Secondary Girls School. The African girl at in a difficult position. She is the last in line for money for school fees in the already streatched family budget. This school facility will provide a much needed resource for young women in the Tororo district for generations!

Here is the school houes building. The total cost of construction including land for the entire complex was $30,000. All funds were raised by private donations.

Students work on many different assignments around the work sight. Here a group of students take turns sifting sand for plaster. Many blisters were taken home as memories from this years trip!

Once the sand is sifted it is then carried to the plastering sight. Sand is being mixed with cement for plaster to be applied to the interior walls.

The local plasters were a bit slow to warm up to the Girls working along with them in construction work. Once they saw the hard work and dedication of students like Andrea they were sold on the idea!

The trip is not all work and no play! Part of our experience is to spend time with the neighbor kids around the project sight.

Students found time to learn the joy of simply sharing time with each other. We in the U.S. sometimes think you must have stuff to have fun. Students dance with neighbor kids to pass the time during a rain storm stopping construction for the afternoon.
