2006 BUILDING PROJECT

This was the final year at the Tororo Parents Secondary Girls School. We finished the school compound with the addition of a science lab/library block building. This year we had 38 volunteers who made the trip. This large number created the need for two groups. It was both a sad and happy year as next year we will be building in a new area without the familiar faces in Tororo.

This year, with the additional workers, we were able to plant some produce bearing trees like mango and orange. These trees will provide food for the students for years to come. An additional resource provided this year was a solar panel for the school building. The solar panel provides FREE LIGHTING for study groups after dark.

Ames High students not only helped build these trusses, but with long poles, raised them into position. This process is similar to how people built in the US many years ago.

Here the roof is going on the library portion of the building. The design is similar to the original school built in 2004, the difference being there are two large rooms in the science/library block in place of the four classrooms in the school.

With the completion of the science/library block building the school is fully equipped to provide a complete curriculum and enable the students to prepare for the certification board tests upon their graduation from the Tororo Parents Secondary Girls School.

Here is a picture at the front gate of the school. These are the people who made the dream of this school happen. From left to right: head master of the Tororo Parents Secondary Girls School, Jimmy Otong, Donna Mooney, Tim Mooney, and Eric Brookhart.

I would like to take this opportunty to thank all those who made the projects at the Tororo Parents Secondary Girls School a reality. I know this institution would not have come to be if not for all the hard work. It is not only the time for these trips to Uganda by the workers but also the fundraising that had to be done in the months prior to each of the trips. I can not begin to thank everyone in Ames, Iowa for all their hard work. I want to especially thank the chaperones who took their summer to be such a vital part of these projects. In 2004 Tim and Donna Mooney, Dr Guffy and Tim Hibbing. In 2005 Tim and Donna Mooney, Dr Dan and Sherrie Voss, Chad Zmolek, Ryan Guffy, and John Tyler. In 2006 Tim and Donna Mooney, Phil Breake, Chad Zmolek, and Lizz Huntington.
Following our return from the 2006 trip the positive response has increased not just by the Americans but also from our partners in Uganda. As a result we are looking at the possibility of organizing additional project trips for 2007. Hope to have many new pictures and many new faces from both Uganda and the students. Thank you again and God Bless, Eric Brookhart, Global Building
