Life to Life Global Building Group, Inc. is in the business of providing for people. We began in the summer of 2004 with Ames high school teacher Tim Mooney and Davenport firefighter / builder Eric Brookhart. The two developed, coordinated, and lead a group of high school students to Uganda Africa. The purpose of the adventure was two fold. First to build a secondary girls school in Tororo Uganda and second to widen the experiences of our youth in America.
Simple words can not explain the experience of laboring side by side with another from a far different land than that which we are familiar. It is out intent to open the minds of young adults, the future of our country, to see how we may think about ways we can provide for the world, not how the world can provide for us.
Since that first trip to Tororo in 04 LTLGBG has gone back to Uganda each summer continuing to take students on these working vacations. Our volunteers are required to to write an essay explaining how their presence would add to the project. Also we want to understand what the expectations are from our students prior to embarking on each summers journey. Then, if selected, they are required to fund raise for their own trip expenses and assist in the funding of the project. In June of 2007 Mooney and Brookhart lead three groups, totaling 50, on two independent projects. The first, a primary school for a remote village, and secondly small housing units for a Ugandan women and family relief agency.
On the horizon for LTLGBG plans are being made for partnering with Ugandan agencies for the provision of additional building projects as well as direct links to child and family support sponsorship. An effort to assist in the development of micro enterprise businesses is also in the planning stages. We are attempting to bring projects full circle. To assist in the education and empowerment of those with limited opportunity then to assist in exploring markets for those developed skills. Our mission is to assist those disadvantaged while maintaining dignity in the individual, allowing for the creation of self-sustaining choices.
